The Wintergreen Fund for Conservation was founded as a registered charity in 1997. The Fund for Conservation exists to raise support and funding for the Mattagami Region Conservation Authority. The Mattagami Region Conservation Authority is legislated under the Ontario Conservations Authorities’ Act, 1946 and charged with the duty of managing renewable natural resources on a watershed basis. As a charitable organization, receipts are issued for donations, which provides a tax relief for supporters.
