The objective of the UTIP is to strengthen training in the trades to better support a skilled, inclusive, certified and productive trades workforce. The UTIP program has 2 streams of funding. Stream 1 supports unions by providing up to 50% of the cost of investments in equipment and materials for training. Stream 2 supports innovative approaches to address challenges that limit apprenticeship outcomes (union involvement required). The current Call for Proposal (CFP) process is for Stream 1 projects only.
- To increase investment in up-to-date training equipment and materials for higher quality training, leading to a more skilled and productive trades workforce; where applicable, to improve the participation and success of key groups in trades training and careers (including women, Indigenous people, newcomers, persons with disabilities, and visible minorities / racialized persons); and where applicable, to enhance broad-based partnerships between organizations (eg with employers, community / non-profit groups, and educational institutions and other training providers).
