The Strategic Research Initiative provides targeted funding to advance strategic priorities within the industry. Projects are expected to go beyond the scope and scale of work normally undertaken within the Agricultural Development Fund (ADF), with the goal to address complex challenges facing the industry. Funding is awarded on an annual basis and projects are selected through the Agriculture Development Fund Advisory Committee.
The theme of the 2021 Strategic Research Initiative is Carbon Sequestration Under Pasture and Forage Resources. The intention of this competition is to significantly advance the empirical quantification and the regional mapping of soil carbon sequestration under pasture and forage resources in Saskatchewan.
The Saskatchewan Ministry of Agriculture invites collaborative, multi-disciplinary, cross-institutional Saskatchewan-led teams to develop and submit integrated research proposals. A total of up to $2.5 million can be awarded under this competition to support work on this theme.
