We believe in the growth and well being of the communities in which our employees work and live. Through our support of groups and endeavours in the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo and the city of Edmonton, we aim to help enhance the quality of life for all residents. Over the last five years, we have donated over $21 million towards various organizations and projects. Our community investment program focuses on the areas of education, environment, health and safety, science and technology, Aboriginal relations, local community development, arts and culture, and recreation.

  • Syncrude's Community Investment Program supports organizations and groups that require assistance with projects enhancing the quality of life within the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo and the city of Edmonton. To qualify for support from Syncrude, a project must reflect our company's commitment in the key areas of education and lifelong learning, environment, health and safety, science and technology, Aboriginal development, local community development, arts and culture, or recreation. Our assistance may be provided in the form of funds, materials/equipment, or employees' time and expertise.
  • Syncrude prefers to invest in areas that reflect the values of our employees and our company. These fall into specific categories: Education and Lifelong Learning Education and lifelong learning projects which cannot be funded by local school boards and/or institutions of higher learning. Environment, Health and Safety Organizations or events dealing with issues relating to environment, and health and safety. Community Development Projects of significant value that contribute towards the enhancement of community facilities and activities. Projects must demonstrate the ability to be self-supporting in the future and reflect the needs and interests of a wide number of citizens (within the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo only). This includes such activities as the annual corporate contribution to the United Way.
  • Arts and Culture Projects or organizations in the Wood Buffalo region that help to further the arts, offer entertainment, or inform citizens on matters of historical or current interest. This includes: theatre, concerts, film presentations and exhibitions which help to increase an individual's knowledge of the community, province or country. It is expected that contributions in this category would be minimal or special, one-time events. Recreation Undertakings which promote health and fitness through program design, and organizations which promote amateur sports for enjoyment or excellence (within the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo only). Science and Technology Projects or organizations encouraging partnerships in areas of interest to Syncrude and targeted specifically toward promoting oil sands technology.
