Purpose of the program
In recent years, due to the upheavals caused in particular by the advent of digital technology, the written press market has been weakened by the decrease in advertising and subscription revenues. The print media companies must therefore adapt to this new environment as well as to new practices.
Through this program, the Ministry of Culture and Communications wishes to stimulate the transformation of business models by supporting the initiation or continuation of the digital shift in print media companies.
This transformation of business models should have an effect on:
- the adaptation of print media companies to the new environment and new practices;
- maximizing revenues from digital platforms;
- the maintenance of the production of local and regional information by the supported print media companies.
The first call for projects of the program to support the digital adaptation of print media companies for the year 2021-2022 is in progress until May 28, 2021.
This Program aims to stimulate the adaptation of the business models of newspaper companies to the digital context. Support for companies that so desire can be provided by the Ministry of Culture and Communications for the development of their projects and the submission of their application. To provide more opportunities for print media companies to submit their projects, there will be 2 separate call for projects periods during the year. Thus, 2 submission deadlines, May 28, 2021 and November 12, 2021, must be respected in order to allow the analysis and evaluation of projects.
It should be remembered that print media companies and organizations grouping them together are eligible for the Program, which includes 2 components:
- Part A: Study and diagnostic establishment phase
- Part B: Project implementation phase
In addition, since October 2, 2019, organizations that bring together print media companies and community media organizations have the opportunity to submit support and training projects intended for their members, in link with digital adaptation.
Goals
General objectives
The general objectives of this program are:
- encourage the adoption of innovative marketing, creation or monetization strategies for journalistic content on news of general interest by focusing on digital technology;
- promote innovation and experimentation by print media companies by focusing on digital technology.
Specific objective
Part A encourages companies to develop planning adapted to their context by relying on the carrying out of studies or the establishment of diagnoses prior to the realization of projects or strategies.
