Towards responsible and sustainable tourism
The tourism industry is directly concerned by environmental and climatic issues, and customers are increasingly sensitive to them. The collective awareness that the pandemic imposes must be seen as an opportunity to think about the future differently and to accelerate the implementation of sustainable practices in tourism businesses in Quebec.
In order to ensure a prosperous future for its businesses and for future generations, the Ministère du Tourisme is committed to making Québec a leader in responsible and sustainable tourism. The measures it intends to implement are gathered in the Action Plan for responsible and sustainable tourism . The 2021-2025 Tourism Intervention Framework: Acting Today. Transformer Tomorrow will support projects and initiatives in line with the objectives pursued by this action plan.
Targeted results
Component 2: Financing fund for hotel establishments
The following data will be collected from beneficiaries in order to measure PADAT results:
Improvement and renovation works
- Number of renovated accommodation units;
- Number of renovated meeting or conference rooms;
- Number of projects aimed at renovating public areas (entrance hall, reception, rest areas, public toilets, bars and other interior fittings) or the exterior structure of the building (cladding, roof, doors and windows, etc. );
- Number of hotel establishments having carried out work to improve and adapt their equipment and infrastructure to enable health measures to be observed.
Construction work
- Number of new accommodation establishments;
- Number of new accommodation units;
- Number of new meeting or convention rooms.
Miscellaneous
- The total cost of the financial interventions granted under this program will not exceed the appropriations provided for this purpose.
- These sums will include the amounts allocated in the form of a subsidy as well as the provisions for financial intervention relating to the granting of loans and loan guarantees.
- A quarterly follow-up will be carried out by IQ with the Ministry concerning the sums allocated in the form of a subsidy and the total of the provisions for financial intervention determined for the other types of interventions.
Goal
Part 2 of the program is part of a preparation for the revival of the post-pandemic tourism industry. This component aims to improve the state of the infrastructure of the hotel stock and add tourist accommodation units.
In addition, this component provides for the improvement of equipment and infrastructure or their adaptation to allow compliance with health measures. More specifically, it includes:
- renovation or upgrading:
- accommodation units,
- meeting or congress rooms,
- public areas (entrance hall, reception, rest areas, public toilets, bars and other interior fittings) or the exterior structure of the building (cladding, roof, doors and windows, etc.);
- adding hotel infrastructure;
- improvement and adaptation of equipment and infrastructure to comply with health measures.
