The Support Program for Municipalities in Crime Prevention (PSM) offers financial assistance to municipal organizations and Aboriginal communities of less than 100,000 inhabitants who wish to improve the safety of their locality by implementing preventive actions adapted to their reality.
Goals
By funding the implementation of preventive actions and measures, the PSM aims to counteract the emergence or aggravation of problems, both among young people and adults, revolving around issues such as:
- crime and victimization of people;
- disorder and incivility;
- sense of security;
- appreciation of services to the population.
This program encourages municipal and Aboriginal stakeholders to call for increased mobilization of resources to improve the crime prevention, support and protection services offered to citizens. The PSM thus facilitates the management by local actors of problematic situations that could compromise the safety of citizens in a perspective of sustainable development.
