Purpose of the program
In a context of increased competition and given the modest size of the Quebec market, the vitality and dynamism of Quebec artists, businesses and cultural organizations depend a great deal on their ability to export their productions beyond Quebec's borders and to promote their expertise in the world.
The Support Program for International Initiatives aims to support Quebec cultural actors in their international projects with a view to increasing the dissemination and cultural exports of Quebec, as well as promoting Quebec expertise in culture and communication. It is intended to complement the export support programs of the Société de développement des entreprises culturelle (SODEC) and the support programs for the dissemination of works and the mobility of artists of the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec ( CALQ), which it cannot replace. Indeed, any applicant wishing to participate in this Program must first check whether a SODEC or CALQ program can meet their needs.
The Program contributes to the achievement of objective 1.2 of the 2019-2023 Strategic Plan (PDF 3.01 MB) of the Ministère de la Culture et des Communications, which consists in facilitating the export of Québec cultural productions. In addition, it supports the implementation and participation of specialists and professionals in international structuring projects for the cultural community, in accordance with objective 4.4 of Québec's cultural policy Partout, la culture , which consists in supporting artists, businesses and cultural organizations in their actions to develop international markets.
Goals
The general objectives of this Program are as follows:
- stimulate the influence of artists and cultural productions with a view to developing markets outside Quebec for the Quebec cultural community;
- contribute to the establishment of lasting ties between broadcasters and programmers outside Quebec and the Quebec cultural community to promote the circulation of cultural productions from here;
- increase international recognition of Québec expertise in culture and communication.
More specifically, the Program has 3 components:
- component 1 Export : aims to support structuring projects, either non-recurring aid or aid that does not constitute support for the mission, promoting the marketing of artists and cultural productions as well as the discoverability of Québec cultural content internationally;
- component 2 Invitation : aims at the participation of professionals from outside Quebec in market events or cultural festivals in Quebec focused on the discovery of Quebec artists and productions in order to promote their circulation in Canada and abroad;
- component 3 Expertise : aims to position and promote Québec know-how in the fields of culture and communications on the international scene.
