Program Overview
- The Ministry of Health is implementing a one-time rural and remote recruitment incentive of up to $50,000 for individuals hired into high-priority classifications in rural and remote locations.
- The incentive is a one-time incentive allocated over three years to new permanent full-time employees of the Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) or an Affiliate in one of nine high-priority classifications in one of the rural or remote locations listed below:

1. Program Overview
- The Ministry of Health is offering a one-time rural and remote recruitment incentive of up to $50,000 to health care workers in high priority positions in rural and remote Saskatchewan locations. Applications will remain open while funds last.
- The incentive is paid over three years for a matching return-of-service agreement to new employees of the SHA/Affiliate filling a permanent full-time position in one of the high-priority classifications in one of the rural and remote locations listed below:

2. Eligibility
Applications are currently open.
- Applicants must HAVE started their permanent full-time employment before applying and fit one of the following:
- Must begin their employment with the SHA/Affiliate in a permanent full-time position on or after September 7, 2022 in one of the high priority classifications in a rural and remote area identified in the Program Overview; or
- An employee who retired from the SHA or an Affiliate before September 7, 2022, and has returned to a permanent full-time position in one of the high priority classifications in one of the rural and remote areas on or after September 7, 2022; or
- An individual who will complete an education program in one of the nine high priority classifications while working for the SHA or an Affiliate on or after September 7, 2022, AND has accepted a permanent full-time position in one of the high priority classifications in a rural and remote area and began working with the SHA / an Affiliate after September 7, 2022; or
- A new graduate in one of the nine high priority classifications who completed their schooling after September 7, 2022 and working in a temp/casual position in one of the high priority classifications in a rural and remote area identified in the Program Overview will have up to 4 months to obtain licensure and permanent full-time employment. The applicant cannot apply for the incentive until after permanent full-time employment has begun; or
- A former employee of the SHA /Affiliate who left employment prior to September 7, 2022, and is returning to a permanent full-time position in one of the high priority classifications in a rural and remote area and has started permanent full-time employment on or after September 7, 2022; or
- An individual who has a work permit and is legally entitled to work in Canada for the term of a return-in-service agreement, AND is a permanent full-time employee of the SHA or an Affiliate and has started employment on or after September 7, 2022, in one of the high priority classifications in a rural and remote area.

- Applicants NOT eligible:
- Current employees of the SHA, an Affiliate or the Saskatchewan Cancer Agency who are not students; and
- Recruits from the SHA Philippines International Recruitment Initiative.
3. Funding
- The Saskatchewan Rural and Remote Recruitment Incentive is allocated as follows:
- A $50,000 recruitment incentive allocated over three years (Y1 $20,000, Y2 $15,000, Y3 $15,000) to new full-time registered nurse, registered psychiatric nurse and nurse practitioner employees hired by the SHA or an Affiliate in eligible rural and remote areas of the province with a three-year return-in-service (RIS) agreement;
- A $40,000 recruitment incentive allocated over three years (Y1 $15,000, Y2 $15,000, Y3 $10,000) to new full-time combined lab and x-ray technicians, licensed practical nurses, medical laboratory technologists and medical radiation technologists employees hired by the SHA or an Affiliate in eligible rural and remote areas of the province with a three-year RIS agreement; and
- A $30,000 recruitment incentive allocated over three years (Y1 $15,000, Y2 $10,000, Y3 $5,000) to new full-time continuing care assistants and medical laboratory assistants or graduates in one of the high priority classifications in a rural and remote area receiving the Graduate Retention Program (GRP) hired by the SHA or an Affiliate in eligible rural and remote areas of the province with a three-year RIS agreement.
4. Application
Rural and Remote Recruitment Incentive Application

- Applications must be submitted via email to hhr@health.gov.sk.ca. No photos of an application form will be accepted.
- Applications must include:
- The completed application form;
- A copy of the employee’s signed letter of offer from the SHA or an Affiliate; and
- A copy of the work permit (if applicable).

5. Notification Process
- Applications will be reviewed as they are received.
- Within four to six weeks of receipt of an application, applicants will be notified of the outcome by email.
6. Requirements of Recipients
- Successful applicants will be provided a three-year Return-in-Service (RIS) Agreement.
- RIS Agreements must be signed and returned as soon as possible for processing. The first funding allocation will be issued within two to four weeks after receipt of the signed Agreement.
- 11 months following the award of year one of the incentive, recipients and the SHA or Affiliate will be contacted to confirm employment and determine eligibility for the year two payment. Eligibility for year three payments will be assessed 11 months after the year two payment.
- Failure to fulfill the RIS agreement may result in default of the agreement. If it is determined that there is default of the agreement, next steps for repayment and/or discontinuance of the RIS will be determined.
