The Quebec government is injecting, through Investissement Québec, a maximum amount of $100 million to support the creation of the Eurêka SEC investment fund. This new fund will be active at the pre-seed stage and will support the commercialization of innovations resulting from Québec public research in all sectors of activity.
The mission of the Eurêka Investment Fund is to stimulate the commercialization of innovations resulting from Québec public research by making investments allowing the development of new innovative technological companies.
It also aims to attract other investors at the pre-seed stage in companies whose intellectual property is the result of Québec public research.
The Eureka investment fund will make investments, in the form of equity or quasi-equity, mainly through equity investments in venture capital funds and co-investment agreements in the form of management mandates with partners in the financing ecosystem, in particular with Axelys.
This financial vehicle is aimed at potential managers and agents:
- Venture capital investment funds (at the pre-seed and seed stage)
- College Centers for Technology Transfer (CCTT)
- Sectoral industrial research groups (RSRI)
- Any other group with the abilities listed below
Who have the following abilities:
- Identify research teams or start-ups from Quebec public research
- Structure and execute value-added transactions for all stakeholders
- Canvass investors interested in investing alongside the Eureka fund.
- Support companies at the technical, entrepreneurial and corporate level
- Know and use the various government organizations and programs supporting research as a leverage effect for the Fund's investments.
