This program provides grants that support the ongoing development and presentation of creative arts in the visual, literary, media and performing arts in the Northwest Territories (NWT). Consideration is given to organizations or individuals requesting funds for professional development, artistic work, or public presentation on a project-specific basis only.
Overview
The Government of the Northwest Territories is looking for individuals with a passion for the arts, culture and heritage of the NWT to join the NWT Arts Council for a two-year term starting January 2026.
NWT Arts Council members review arts project grant applications twice a year and make recommendations to the Minister of Industry, Tourism and Investment on financial awards for creative artistic projects in the visual, literary, media and performing arts, and on issues and policies associated with the arts and artists.
Previous board experience is not needed.

The deadline to apply is September 15, 2025.
Who can apply
- You must live in the region you apply for.
- Experience and knowledge in the arts, culture and heritage is an asset.
- You cannot serve as a member if you or your spouse are currently receiving funding from the Small and Medium Arts Project Grants.

Expected commitment
- Term begins January 2026.
- Council Members can serve for a minimum of two years and are eligible for reappointment.
- Attend at least two meetings a year, either in-person or by video conference.
- Able to commit time to review applications for two grant intakes a year.
