The Government of Saskatchewan is committed to advancing reconciliation in collaboration with First Nation and Métis communities and organizations to address the issues raised in the Final Report of the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls. The grants are for projects that promote and enhance prevention and build safety for Indigenous women, girls and Two Spirit+ people, along with their families and communities.
An authorized representative(s) of a Saskatchewan-based:
- Local grass-roots Indigenous group;
- Indigenous non-profit group*;
- Non-profit* organizations and municipalities who are seeking authentic partnerships with Indigenous communities, such as:
- Local grass-roots Indigenous groups;
- First Nations Band Councils /Tribal Councils;
- Métis Locals/ Métis Regions; and
- First Nations or Métis agencies or representative groups.
- Non-Indigenous non-profit organizations with Indigenous involvement and whose programs/services benefit a primarily First Nations or Métis clientele.
- Authentic partnerships may include federal, provincial or municipal governments, non-profit organizations, educational institutions, First Nations, Tribal Councils, Métis Nation-Saskatchewan locals or regions, First Nations or Métis representative organizations, or private-sector firms.
- You must provide contact information for the project partners who may be contacted to confirm their participation.
*Please note that non-profits must provide an incorporation number to confirm active status with Information Services Corporation (ISC) to be eligible to apply.
2. Eligible Projects and Funding Criteria
We are encouraging projects focused on:
- Prevention through partnership building and development; and
- Activities promoting and enhancing prevention that build safety for Indigenous women and girls and Two-spirited+ people, their families and communities.
Funding criteria:
- All costs must be specific to the project.
- The Ministry of Government Relations may provide a maximum of $40,000 for projects.
- A maximum of 10 per cent of the grant provided by the ministry can be considered for administrative project costs.
- In-kind contributions are encouraged among the partner groups and can allow your group to target spending strategically.
Ineligible projects/expenses include:
- Projects already receiving federal funding from Women and Gender Equality (WAGE) Canada are not eligible to apply to the provincial MMIWG+ funding envelope;
- Existing staff salaries or wages;
- Administrative expenses over 10 per cent of the grant amount;
- Corporate/business projects intended to make a profit; and
- Out-of-province travel.
