Ministerial initiative to modernize apple orchards in Quebec | Component 2 – Support for the replanting of apple trees
Improve the productivity of apple orchards in Quebec. More specifically, the Initiative promotes the uprooting and replanting of problematic apple trees. The replanting of apple trees allows the replacement of uprooted trees by more efficient cultivars and rootstocks as well as the use of more productive cultivation techniques. Effects on productivity will be seen about five years after replanting.

Improve the productivity of apple orchards in Quebec. More specifically, the Initiative promotes the uprooting and replanting of problematic apple trees. The replanting of apple trees allows the replacement of uprooted trees by more efficient cultivars and rootstocks as well as the use of more productive cultivation techniques. Effects on productivity will be seen about five years after replanting.Modernize plots and improve the productivity of apple trees in Quebec. The following actions help achieve this goal:
- Plant high-performance cultivars and rootstocks;
- Promote modern, efficient and adaptable farming techniques;
- Reduce the areas of standard apple trees;
- Decrease the proportion of the McIntosh cultivar.
