The Methane Technology Implementation Program (MTIP) targets deployment and use of commercially available technologies that emphasize reductions in methane emissions in the discovery, recovery, and processing of Alberta’s energy resources.
This program will support the oil and gas industry’s GHG emissions performance; provides industry and the provincial government with the performance metrics required to demonstrate GHG emissions reduction leadership on the global stage; accelerates export capacity and supports the growth of Canada’s technology sector. The program is designed to help with both the future cost of regulatory compliance that industry will face with over the coming years and to enable projects that will support Alberta meeting, or even exceeding, the provincial methane emission reduction target of 45% by 2025. The technologies deployed will reduce operating costs and keep more product in the pipeline for markets. In addition, the program aims to help companies achieve Environmental Social Governance (ESG) goals and support employment within the sector.
