Developed in consultation with stakeholders in the agricultural sector, the 2020-2030 Sustainable Agriculture Plan (hereinafter, the Plan) aims to accelerate the adoption of agri-environmental practices that take into account societal concerns in terms of pesticides as well as Quebec government commitments regarding climate change and sustainable development.
This plan comes to concretize, in the agricultural sector, the objective of the Biofood Policy 2018-2025 - Feeding our world by helping to encourage concerted approaches to protect health and the environment as well as to strengthen the adoption of organic food practices. responsible business.
One of the objectives of the Plan is to reduce the use of pesticides as well as the health and environmental risks associated with them, while ensuring the economic viability of agricultural production. The Plan aims to reduce the synthetic pesticides sold by 500,000 kilograms and the risks associated with their use in Quebec's agricultural environments by 40% by the year 2030.
This call for projects in support of the development of integrated pest management (ADLAI) has the specific objectives of supporting projects that aim to:
- increase environmental gains in pest control by offering agricultural producers solutions that respect the environment and human health;
- to supervise trials of lower-risk pesticides and biopesticides so that these trials are linked to priority harmful phytosanitary problems for human health and the environment;
- to obtain scientific data that meets the requirements of the Pest Management Regulatory Agency, and that can support applications for extension of registration.
