Manitoba Families is currently recruiting five community experts from organizations that provide services to or promote the rights of youth, as well as six youth members aged 15 to 21 that reflect Manitoba’s diversity to become council members for the first one-year term beginning in the fall.

The COVID-19 pandemic has led to many challenges for Manitobans. These have been particularly difficult for children and youth. Because Manitoba Families has several services that impact children and youth, the Minister of Families has created a Youth Leadership Council to hear directly from children and youth about their concerns, their ideas for improving services, and to ensure their voices are reflected in government decisions.

The council is composed of representatives from youth-service organizations, as well as youth aged 15 to 21 who have experience with Manitoba Families programs.  Youth members reflect the diversity of Manitoba’s communities.

For its initial project, the council will produce a high-level report on the effects of COVID-19 on children and youth in contact with Manitoba Families programs.  This will include recommendations for government and community agencies on how to modernize and adapt their programs and services.
