The Manitoba government is issuing a request for proposals (RFP) to improve medical aviation services and provide safe, timely, reliable and consistent care, Health Minister Audrey Gordon announced today.
The RFP includes long-term medical aviation services delivered via airplanes and helicopters Proponents may submit proposals for either or both of these services. The minister noted that the requirements set out under the RFP will support improved care and services to Manitobans by:
- ensuring all aircraft address the needs of all Manitobans who require critical and specialty care, such as neonatal incubators and bariatric stretcher platforms;
- awarding more points to proposals that provide newer, dedicated aircraft to support patient safety and overall reliability of the service;
- requiring 24-hours-a-day, 365-days-a-year primary aircraft availability, supported by additional backup aircraft;
- including the option for Manitoba to expand capacity over the term of the contract, based on the demands for air ambulance care; and
- mandating high-performance standards such as more expedient deployment times and the use of a safety management program.
