The purpose of the Indigenous Initiatives Fund (IIF IV) is to support the Indigenous people of Québec in their economic, social and community development and provide them with the means to carry out promising community projects.
A constantly evolving program The IIF IV provides greater flexibility than previous programs, particularly between the economic development and community infrastructure components. This approach enables Indigenous communities to optimize their available funds for their particular needs. To meet the needs of Indigenous communities, the program also entails certain enhancements, such as the possibility of supporting the digital shift under an economic development program or even the option of implementing their own economic development measures to help fund their members’ projects. The program also enables the Secrétariat aux affaires autochtones to continue providing operational funding to Indigenous community action organizations whose mission falls within its area of responsibility. The Secrétariat aux affaires autochtones will still support service and infrastructure projects in urban environments, initiatives for fostering Indigenous social development, and community responses to consultations by the Gouvernement du Québec.
