The Green and Inclusive Community Buildings (GICB) program aims to build more community buildings and improve existing ones - in particular in areas with populations experiencing higher needs - while also making the buildings more energy efficient, lower carbon, more resilient, and higher performing.
Applicants with small and medium retrofit projects to existing community buildings ranging in total eligible cost from $ 100,000 to $ 3 million will be accepted on a continuous basis and funded on a firstcome, first-served basis. The following community buildings / assets are eligible for retrofit projects: community, culture and recreation facilities (eg community centers; public sports and recreation facilities; cultural buildings; child and youth centers; community adult learning centers; seniors activity centers); mobile community structures (eg mobile libraries, health clinics, youth service facilities); community health and wellness facilities (eg food safety and security, community food storage facilities, greenhouses, and food banks; community health centers; addiction and mental health centers; rehabilitation centers, etc.); Indigenous health and social infrastructure facilities (eg community health centers, clinics, paramedic facilities, long-term care facilities / elders lodges, family violence and homeless shelters); Indigenous education facilities (eg schools, universities and colleges, adult learning centers; early childhood and daycares).
