The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) is launching a pilot program to provide funding to Indigenous Governments and Indigenous Government Organizations to build capacity within the resource sector, as part of the GNWT’s mandate commitment to adopt a benefit retention approach to economic development.

The goal of the Indigenous Capacity Building (ICB) pilot program is to increase Indigenous capacity to participate in and benefit from the resource sector.

The pilot program will provide funding to eligible applicants under three categories:

  • Strategic planning and capacity building activities – includes workshops, meetings and sessions.
  • Training and educational opportunities – includes prospector training, Mining 101 courses and career development.
  • Attendance at conferences and tradeshows – maximum funding available to any applicant under this category is $5,000 per conference to a maximum of $15,000 per fiscal year.
