With the aim of stimulating the economy of the regions and enhancing the value of public land, the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources is announcing a financial assistance program for the rehabilitation of sand and gravel pits. This program, with a budget envelope of $ 10 million, is spread over two years and ends on March 31, 2023.
Rehabilitate old sand pits that have not been used for more than 10 years or whose resources have been exhausted; perform the environmental evaluation of the old sand pit where contamination is suspected; proceed with the revaluation of the site of the old sand pit according to the rules of use of public land. This upgrading consists of changing the initial vocation of a sand or gravel pit to make it, for example, a park, an interpretive trail or a cycle path.
