The Government of Canada’s new $750 million Emissions Reduction Fund (ERF) will reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by providing financial support for oil and gas companies to adopt greener technologies and to help maintain jobs in the sector.

The program features repayable contributions with flexible five-year payback period options for projects that aim to reduce emissions, as well as partially repayable contributions for projects that aim to eliminate greenhouse gas emissions. Of the $750 million, the Program will offer up to $675 million to the onshore upstream and midstream oil and gas sector to lower or eliminate routine venting of methane rich natural gas from conventional, tight and shale oil and gas operations.
