Fund Type
As part of the implementation of the Plan for a Green Economy 2030 (PEV 2030)
of the Government of Quebec, the Ministère des Transports has the mandate to contribute to measure 1.1.2, which aims to increase the use of renewable energies and efficiency in the transportation of goods.
The implementation of this measure results, among other things, in the renewal of the Assistance Program for the Reduction of Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions in Road Freight Transportation (Écocamionnage program).
Support for the technological modernization of a sector such as freight transportation with a view to reducing GHGs makes it possible to influence one of the major sources of emissions in Québec whose impact it is essential to reduce. In addition, the circulation of heavy vehicles causes not only GHG emissions, but also polluting emissions and particles that can be responsible for urban smog. It is therefore just as necessary to support this sector quickly and now in reducing its emissions to have a significantly lower environmental impact in the medium and long term.
Economically, improving the efficiency of this sector, and ultimately electrifying freight transportation, will reduce fossil fuel consumption and Quebec's dependence on oil.
The program has been in effect since December 14, 2021 and ends on March 31, 2024. However, it is retroactive to April 1 , 2021 for the "Acquisition of technology" and "Acquisition of used heavy vehicles" components.
Financial aid
Sub-component | Calculation of eligible aid/expenses | Maximum amount of financial assistance ($) |
---|---|---|
Study | 50% for municipal and intermunicipal organizations 75% for non-profit organizations (NPOs) and cooperatives | $150,000 |
Location | 50% for municipal and intermunicipal organizations 75% for NPOs and cooperatives | $2,000,000, with a maximum of $500 per tonne of GHG emissions reduced for projects for which the financial assistance granted is more than $500,000 |
The Écocamionnage program aims to reduce GHG emissions in the road transportation industry of goods and service vehicles through measures to improve energy efficiency or through the use of alternative energies.
This program does not apply to the passenger transport sector.
Specific objectives
Improve the efficiency of freight transport with the aim of reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions through better collaboration between stakeholders and the use of electric vehicles.
This section also allows you to:
- reduce the number of trucks on the streets and on the roads;
- optimize the use of vehicles (loading);
- reduce the cost of transportation;
- reduce the negative impacts on the health of citizens, since urban delivery is responsible for a large part of the pollution in cities.
This section is structured around the following two sub-sections:
- Technical or feasibility study prior to the implementation of a collaborative pilot project for shared and electric delivery;
- Implementation of the collaborative pilot project for shared and electric delivery.
