The carbon capture and utilization (CCU) program supports technologies that convert carbon dioxide (CO2) into products with significant commercial value and market demand, and that mitigate greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and diversifying the economy. The program also supports cost competitive and environmentally sound CO2 capture technologies that will be needed to enable CO2 utilization.
- To catalyze transformative CO2 utilization technologies that will contribute to Alberta’s GHG mitigation and economic diversification; in consultation with stakeholders the program will identify CCU technology areas that lower its carbon footprint and gain a competitive advantage for Alberta; the program serves as an innovation conduit to accelerate the development CCU technologies to a level of technology maturity so they can be piloted at the Alberta Carbon Conversion Technology Centre (ACCTC); the program builds collaborative partnerships with provincial, national and international organizations/stakeholders to co-invest in CO2 utilization technologies through joint funding calls.
