Building on Canada’s worldwide reputation as a leader in agricultural production, the agriculture infrastructure initiative supports and aligns with federal priorities.

Working with the provinces, which play a critical role in the agriculture and agri-food sector, and federal stakeholders, the CIB has identified types of projects for the agriculture infrastructure initiative.

For the Growth Plan’s irrigation projects, it is estimated that the anticipated benefits include the creation of hundreds of thousands of acres of irrigated cropland, employment for the construction period of the irrigation projects, long-term employment over the 50 year life cycle of the projects, and an increase in GDP .

Although our initial focus will be on Alberta and Saskatchewan, all ten provinces and three territories are potential public-sector partners or project sponsors for the CIB’s agriculture infrastructure initiative.

Trade and transport infrastructure supports stronger, more efficient corridors to domestic and international markets, and helps Canadian businesses compete and grow. Examples of potential projects include ports, inter-regional, freight and passenger rail, highways, all season and resource roads, bridges and tunnels.
