httSince 2016, Quebec and Cuba have supported cooperation projects in various sectors. The sectors targeted by the calls for projects are determined by the Quebec and Cuban authorities, with the collaboration of the Quebec Office in Havana (BQLH), on the basis of the Joint Declaration of Quebec-Cuba Cooperation. The Quebec-Cuba Working Group (GTQC), set up in accordance with this joint declaration, is the main instrument for coordinating exchanges between the two governments.
Goals
The objectives pursued by this call for projects are as follows:
- Support the carrying out of innovative and structuring activities that generate concrete spinoffs in the targeted sectors.
- Strengthen institutional exchanges between Québec and Cuba by supporting the carrying out of activities likely to generate direct spinoffs in sectors of mutual interest.
- Encourage networking, collaboration, sharing of expertise and the development of lasting partnerships between Quebec and Cuban organizations.
- Promote a more in-depth knowledge and understanding of the two societies, their similarities and their specificities by taking into account the cultural, social, economic and territorial factors of the projects.
- Increase collaboration and, where possible, international mobility of workers, young people, researchers, entrepreneurs, artists and students.
- Promote the results and give increased visibility to the concrete achievements for the purpose of disseminating knowledge to the targeted clientele and to the populations on both sides.
Target sectors and specific objectives
This call for projects targets the following sectors:
- Agriculture
- Culture
- Economy
- Health and social services
The specific objectives for each of the targeted sectors are:
Agriculture
- Foster the development of links and training and collaboration activities as well as the identification of partners for collaboration in the agriculture and food security sector.
- Encourage experience sharing activities in agricultural cooperatives.
Culture
- Strengthen access to and participation in cultural life and make it a lever for social, economic and territorial development.
- Encourage collaborations, in particular through the exchange of artists, companies, businesses, directors and authors as well as through the holding of collective events, in the following sectors: digital arts, cinema, heritage , literature, crafts, performing arts and music.
- Promote the co-creation and co-dissemination of cultural works and products.
- Promote better mutual knowledge by consolidating networks and promoting cultural expertise, as well as by developing partnerships between cultural institutions.
Economy
- Promote bilateral initiatives for economic development and, in particular, for the social economy.
- Deepen cooperation between Québec and Cuba in the use of renewable energies and the management of natural resources, in particular through training, technological updating, verification of energy potential and the exchange of expertise.
Health and social services
- Encourage partnerships that are consistent with the objectives pursued by the Protocol for Cooperation in Health between the Pan American Health Organization, the Government of Quebec and stakeholders in targeted priority areas, namely :
- improving front-line services;
- women's and infants' health;
- building capacity for monitoring and using health data;
- health determinants and health promotion.
- Promote collaboration between institutions in Quebec and Cuba in biomedical research and bioinformatics.
