Purpose of the Project Aid program

Culture is recognized as an essential component of the development of Quebec society. Through the museum policy, Living differently... the timeline, the Ministry of Culture and Communications expresses the conviction that the museum institution plays a key role in the accessibility and dissemination of heritage and culture, especially through their promotion.

The Department's mission is to contribute to the influence of culture and communications, to the individual and collective development of the population as well as to the development of an environment conducive to the creation and vitality of the territories. In accordance with its mission, it takes a stand on major current issues and defends the cultural interests of Quebec, in Canada and on the international scene. The Department considers the cultural and communications communities to be key partners in carrying out its mission. It supports them through the Project Assistance program, which aims to:

  • call for projects corresponding to the orientations of the Ministry. To this end, the latter establishes a common approach to all calls for projects;
  • receive projects set up by the applicants according to their objectives, but which are in line with the Department's orientations.

The financial assistance granted by the Ministry must allow the realization, over a determined period, of limited actions that cannot be automatically renewed.

In the long term, the projects supported will contribute to the Department's mission, to the dynamism, vitality and influence of Québec culture as well as to the organizational, administrative and financial health of cultural and communication organizations so that they can continue to invest in the community they serve.

Museum institutions fulfill an important role in education, social cohesion and sustainable development, in addition to having the potential to raise public awareness of the value of cultural and natural heritage. Support for permanent and traveling exhibitions ensures the development of expertise essential to the mission of museum institutions. These updates to exhibitions therefore offer them the opportunity to broaden the population's access to the territory's collections and to review their approach.

The program aims to support the conservation and enhancement of the most significant elements of heritage by promoting the updating or renewal of permanent exhibitions and the production of traveling exhibitions. It also aims to support museum institutions in carrying out their mission and carrying out their action plan.

The program thus contributes to the achievement of the Department's objectives with respect to the consolidation and development of culture and communications.

Goals

The general objectives of the Call for projects to support permanent and traveling exhibitions are as follows:

  • renew or improve the museum offer in Quebec by supporting the conservation and enhancement of heritage elements;
  • increase access to collections throughout the territory;
  • technologically upgrade the permanent exhibits;
  • promote the circulation of works from Québec museum institutions through traveling exhibitions;
  • develop the educational dimension of the exhibitions.

More specifically, the program aims at the realization or the renewal, partial or total, of permanent exhibitions (axis 1) or the realization of traveling exhibitions (axis 2) of the accredited museum institutions, and it seeks to ensure the realization of activities complementary museums.
