In September 2020, the Vulnerable Persons Act Task Force was established to identify opportunities to transform the system of supports for adults with an intellectual disability and their support networks. In December 2021, the task force released its final report entitled “Pathways to Dignity: Rights, Safeguards, Planning and Decision Making”. The report included a series of recommendations and a proposed two-year implementation plan beginning January 2022. The Manitoba government appreciates the work of the Task Force and is committed to implementing the recommendations in order to support adults with an intellectual disability to lead inclusive, satisfying lives in the community.

the Department of Families is seeking a community organization to develop and implement pilot projects that reach the following goals:

  • Assist other community organization(s) to develop peer support networks for participants and families.
  • Promote the use of, and successfully recruit, community-based substitute decision makers.
