AgriRecovery is a disaster relief framework under the Canadian Agricultural Partnership that provides a coordinated process for federal, provincial and territorial governments to respond rapidly when disasters affecting several producers occur.

The Livestock Transportation Drought Assistance program was developed in consultation with industry to help meet the needs of Manitoba producers experiencing drought conditions.

The program will help livestock producers affected by low moisture conditions in 2021 with extraordinary transportation costs and to manage breeding herd feed shortages. Financial assistance helps to offset freight expenses associated with moving livestock to alternate feeding locations.

AVAILABLE ASSISTANCE

Livestock transportation assistance is provided for eligible activities and expenses incurred from August 1, 2021 to June 30, 2022 including:

  • transportation costs associated with moving of eligible breeding female animals and breeding males to an alternate feeding location to meet their winter feeding requirement
  • costs for eligible animals, transported between August 1, 2021 and June 30, 2022, for a minimum distance of 40 kilometres (km) up to a maximum one-way distance of 1,000 km
  • The return trip is eligible for up to 1,000 km one-way and application is required for both trips (move out and return) to be eligible for payment. If an application for the return trip is not submitted by the application deadline, the initial move may be deemed ineligible and if already paid will be considered an overpayment.

Payments will be based on the number of head and kilometres as indicated below:

  • breeding beef cattle at $0.08 per head per loaded kilometre

  • breeding sheep and goats at $0.03 per head per loaded kilometre

This program can be combined with Livestock Feed and Transportation Drought Assistance, excluding Feed Transportation.

The minimum value of receipts required to submit an application is $500.
