Funding is available to support community-based active healthy living initiatives, infrastructure or equipment that will help increase physical activity, sport, active recreation and healthy eating for individuals of all ages and abilities.
The Active NL Fund is designed to support active healthy living. Funding is available for initiatives, infrastructure, and equipment that increases participation in physical activity, sport, active recreation, and supports healthy eating for individuals of all ages.
Funding is available to develop, deliver, purchase or upgrade active healthy living infrastructure, equipment, and initiatives targeted at increasing physical activity, sport, active recreation, and healthy eating for individuals of all ages, including:
- Sport, recreation, physical activity, and/or healthy eating equipment;
- Upgrades, repairs, and development of existing or new walking, hiking, cycling, cross country ski, and shared use trails that increase physical activity and active transportation opportunities (applicants must demonstrate land ownership/entitlement);
- Development or upgrades to outdoor/indoor recreation and sport infrastructure/spaces that encourage active recreation activities for all ages, such as outdoor rinks, gymnasium upgrades, playground development and equipment (CSA approved), facility upgrades, shuffleboard, bocce, pickle ball, horseshoes, croquet, etc.;
- Equipment, infrastructure, and other supports required to develop or expand an active street initiative, such as signage, traffic calming and/or traffic diversion equipment, bicycle racks, road markings, and safety equipment;
- Exercise and adaptive/specialized exercise equipment (e.g. treadmill, elliptical, stationary bicycle, etc.) accessible for use in spaces available to the public;
- Active healthy living initiatives, such as youth, adult, and older adult recreation and physical activity programs, day camp, after school program, ongoing recreation activities, healthy cooking, snowshoe, cross country ski, yoga, and active, healthy living initiatives, etc.; and
- Hosting of regional, provincial, and/or national sanctioned sporting events for youth or adult sport participants.
