he Aboriginal Participation Fund (APF) has been developed to help support the participation of Aboriginal communities and organizations in regulatory processes under the Mining Act and in economic development activities associated with mineral exploration and development. The three funding streams under the APF will give Aboriginal communities and organizations a better understanding of the mineral sector and the related regulatory system.
- The Early Exploration Support Sub-Stream is to assist communities and member communities in areas of high mineral development activities with support to respond to early exploration projects. Funding is project-based and will be limited to the costs associated with coordinating the review of early exploration projects.
- Aboriginal communities in areas of high mineral activity may be eligible for early exploration support funding that will contribute to the communities’ capacity to process and respond to notices from MNDM regarding proposed early exploration activities. Funding will be allocated to communities that demonstrate: a need for support funding based on the volume of notices received; and a commitment to coordinating the delivery of mineral exploration and development-related training and education in their community.
